617Introduction
Dr Oliver Segal is a Cardiologist specialising in Electrophysiology – the study of heart rhythm disorders. His NHS practices are at Barts Heart Centre (St. Bartholomew's Hospital) & University College London Hospital. He focuses on seeing patients with palpitations and all types of arrhythmia, particularly atrial fibrillation, irregular heart beats, ectopic or ‘skipped’ beats, pauses and slow heart beats, dizzy spells and blackouts, as well as patients with breathlessness and tiredness due to AF. He is an expert in performing catheter ablation for all types of arrhythmia and implanting pacemakers, defibrillators (ICDs), loop recorders and biventricular pacing systems. He has performed >2,000 electrophysiology studies & ablations and >1,000 device implantation procedures. He also performs pacemaker lead extraction and implants left atrial appendage occlusion devices (the Amulet device) for patients with AF and high risk of stroke who cannot take anticoagulants or when anticoagulants have failed. He implants the new Medtronic Micra leadless pacemaker.
